Wallpaper is a decorators best friend, as it is the quickest way of adding texture to a room without the legwork of painting. In addition, wallpaper does have some additional bonuses, - it conceals the worst of walls, such as what foundation make up does for the face. Lets face it, anyone can decorate a room with fabulous furniture and accessories, but it is the architectural details that really make a "great" room fabulous. Layering is the best secret of any designer.
Geometrical patterns on your walls can be achieved through wallpaper, free hand painting, taping or stencils that have been hand made. Painting can be laborious when considering a painted pattern on the wall. A complex pattern can take weeks to achieve depending on the skill of the painter, and the ornate details of the design. Smaller patterns with complexity are harder to produce by hand. If you are willing to put in the time and effort, and create a stencil, you can recreate any pattern of your liking. Here is an example of a furniture piece painted from a hand cut stencil. It was worth the time and the effort to create your own stencil if you are really desire a special pattern to be incorporated into your home. The stencil can be used again and again by simply washing in between painting. Chinoiserie wallpaper can cost an arm and a leg, but if you have the time to create a stencil, it can be worth the time and effort in getting the colors you are after.

does anyone know know where I can purchase Bob Collins wallpaper??? I live in Manhattan. Also, who makes the bird wallpaper the Kelly Wearstler used in the Trina Turk Palm Springs store…I know she also used a similar paper in sepia tones with bamboo in one of the bedrooms of her residential projects and I was just wondering if anyone knew where it was available to purchase. I really like it; it is a nice balance of Chinoiserie, toile and Regency style….any help would be much appreciated. Also, general question….What are people’s opinions on the Schumacher wallpaper “Oiseaux et Fleurs” in Cinnibar?? Thinking of doing this paper in my new apartment…in the bedroom…pre-war UES townhouse, 14 foot celings….opinions please!!!!!!!
